Using Cicero is really easy. When you are going to translate the text in a computer program for a developer, download the file or files they send to you into a new folder on your computer. Then, open any of those files in Cicero (the program will figure out how the files are related to each other if there is more than one). You can add new languages to the project by clicking on the Add Culture function under the Edit menu. You can edit multiple languages in the project, but only one at a time. The current one is displayed using its native name in the dropdown box in the toolbar.
Once you have selected or added a culture, a list of text entries in the program will be displayed in a table format. You can click on any cell in the Translated column of the table and type the translated version of the text in the Original column. Since these entries may contain multiple lines, pressing enter or return on your keyboard will insert in a new line. To quickly move between text entries using your keyboard, use the F7 and F8 keys.
Once you're finished, tell Cicero to save. Then, send all of the files in the folder you made on your computer for this translation work. Cicero will have created new files for each of the cultures you added to the project yourself. Make sure to send back all the files in the folder!
Epiforge has recently begun an initiative to get our software translated into multiple languages. The available options to translation professionals for dealing with the particular programming framework that we use didn't excite us. That's why we made Cicero.
In addition to translating our other software, we want to translate Cicero itself into as many languages as possible. To that end, if you are or aspire to be a professional translator, we invite you to download Cicero and to download a ZIP archive containing its language file. Provide us with a translation of Cicero’s interface that we don’t already have—submit entries here—and we'll add it to the software and credit you, including a link to your web site on the bottom of the main window.
